CHC Students who have accepted admission to Case Western Reserve University become CHC Scholars upon matriculation to CWRU. All CHC Scholars get a head start on the Fall 2016 semester with a Summer Bridge program specific to transfer students in the Cleveland Humanities Collaborative.
For the Summer Bridge program, CHC Scholars enroll in FSTS 100 First Seminar Transfer Supplement, a one-credit course for transfer students that introduces them to University Circle’s unique cultural and intellectual environment. In conjunction with FSTS 100, the program includes day-long workshops that introduce students to CWRU’s SAGES curriculum with its emphasis on analytical thinking, close reading, writing, active seminar participation, and presentation skills. Students also meet with the many student services and organizations on campus that support all CWRU students as they progress in their studies. Professor Bernard Jim, an experienced SAGES Fellow who has received several teaching honors including the University’s prestigious Carl F. Wittke Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching, will lead the Summer Bridge program.
The Summer Bridge program is mandatory for all CHC Scholars and meets Monday, July 11th through Friday, August 5, 2016, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break. Daily attendance is required.
The Tri-C Foundation has generously agreed to pay Summer Bridge tuition for FSTS 100. In addition, CHC Scholars who successfully complete Summer Bridge will earn a $2000 stipend with two additional $500 payments in Fall and Spring, for a total of $3000.
